20 landmark races for Crowd Racing before 2020 – RACE 2

Oli Bell and Ian Wright with jockey Richard Kingscote as BTF has a racecourse gallop

At 34grand, Born To Finish wasn’t cheap but the interest in getting a new horse amongst the Crowd was strong so we took the plunge and purchased the Dark Angel colt at the Doncaster Breeze-Up Sales in April 2015. Trainer Jeremy Gask really liked the colt, and as everything else added up the decision to get involved was pretty easy.

Shares sold well in the colt, and Eamonn Wilmott even added ex-footballer and now football pundit and jungle veteran, Ian Wright to the list of owners. We also managed to get permission to change the colours to mirror the Arsenal shirt that Ian was so synonymous with. Ian was as hugely enthusiastic as the other owners and as seen in the pic above, he attended a racehorse gallop with Oli Bell at Kempton Park.

In total there were 87 owners involved in the colt, and the name “BORN TO FINISH” was given to the horse. Partly inspired by Ian, and his ability to finish on a football pitch, the name was to prove to be perfect as BTF is a confirmed hold-up that finishes fast in his races. He is and was BORN TO FINISH.

Under Jeremy and the team, BTF developed well and showed ability at home, and his eagerly awaited debut came in September of 2015.

Kempton Park was the scene for his debut, on September 4th and Freddie Tylicki was booked to take the ride. BTF was sent off at 25-1 and ran a promising race to finish 8th of 11 in a very good maiden stakes race. Obviously at the time, we had no idea how good the opposition was but BTF was beaten that day by Zhui Feng (winner of over £300grand in prize money and won a £100,000 2yr old race as well as the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot), Marsha (winner of 3 Group1 races and over £650,000 in prize money before being sold for a massive £6,000,000) and Silent Attack (finished second in a Group2). It turned out to be a seriously hot maiden, and BTF did very well to get within 6.5 lengths of Marsha conceding 5lbs to the filly.

Born To Finish is still with us now, and has gone on to win 8 races for Crowd Racing and his owners as well as running a further 20 placed efforts from 57 starts, almost a 50% win or placed to runs ratio. Impressive for any horse at their level. You can get involved with BTF as part of the Gold and Green Crowd and can click here or on the image at the bottom of this page to join.
